Island Kids ECC is seeking a warm, flexible, and confident early childhood professional to join our team as a Permanent Substitute Teacher. This unique role is ideal for an experienced educator who enjoys variety while playing an important part in maintaining consistency and stability for young children.
The Permanent Substitute Teacher supports classrooms serving children from Birth through age 4 and may assume either Lead Teacher or Assistant Teacher responsibilities depending on daily program needs. This position ensures that children continue to experience nurturing relationships, predictable routines, and engaging learning environments regardless of staffing changes.
Responsibilities include supporting classroom routines, ensuring active supervision and safety, assisting with curriculum activities, and fostering a calm, responsive atmosphere for children. The ideal candidate is adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable stepping into different classroom settings while maintaining professionalism and strong communication with staff.
Qualifications:
β’ CDA, Associateβs Degree (AA), or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field
β’ Minimum of one year experience working with children ages Birthβ4
β’ Strong understanding of child development and positive guidance practices
β’ Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively with different teaching teams

- Assume Lead Teacher or Assistant Teacher duties as assigned
- Maintain established classroom routines, schedules, and expectations
- Provide active supervision and ensure child safety at all times
- Support childrenβs social, emotional, and developmental needs

- Use developmentally appropriate guidance and interaction strategies
- Foster a positive, nurturing, and well-managed classroom environment
- Collaborate effectively with classroom teaching teams and administration
- Follow all program policies, OCFS regulations, and health and safety procedures
- Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and reliability
