Our preschool is looking to hire an energetic, reliable, and friendly assistant teacher.
Angels in the Gardens, a small private school in Forest Hills, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Teacher for the current school year and summer camp, with potential placement for 2026β2027.
Hours:
- Full Day: 7:30-3:30
- Half Day: 8:30 AM β 12:00
Requirements:
- Minimum High school diploma or GED
- Continued education in Early childhood education preferred
- 1 year experience
- Background check, approval letter from DOHMH, fingerprinting (all explained in interview)
- Completion of required trainings (Staff Resources)

Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and carrying out daily classroom activities
- Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times
- Support children during play, learning activities, meals, and rest time
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly classroom environment
- Encourage positive behavior and model appropriate social interactions
- Provide individual support to children as needed
- Assist with diapering, toileting, and basic hygiene routines when required
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, and staff
- Observe and report any developmental concerns or incidents to the Lead Teacher
- Participate in classroom setup, cleanup, and preparation of learning materials
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required (Child Development coursework preferred)
- Previous experience working with young children is a plus
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Patience, reliability, and a genuine love for children
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25β40 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move quickly to supervise children
- Active participation in indoor and outdoor activities
Work Environment
- Fast-paced childcare classroom setting
- Frequent interaction with young children (infants/toddlers/preschoolers depending on classroom assignment)
- Collaborative team environment
- Minimum Education Level: Highschool Graduate or GED
