Mohawk Day Camp & Country Day School has created a unique year-round position for a Preschool/Elementary Teacher (9 months) and Camp Professional (3 months). There are year-round responsibilities for the Camp Professional part of this position, and this team member would be part of our year-round camp leadership team.Β Β

As part of our year-round leadership team, the Camp Professional plays a key role in planning, preparing for, and operating our summer program. This portion of the position is designed to be flexible and can be tailored to the candidateβs strengths, interests, and experience. Responsibilities may focus on areas such as staff hiring and training, enrollment and family outreach, special events, program development, or staff recruitment.

During the camp season, the Camp Professional would serve in a leadership role, such as a Division Director, overseeing a specific age group. This includes supervising staff, supporting campersβ social and emotional growth, communicating with families, and helping ensure a safe and engaging daily program.
Head Teacher Job Responsibilities
- Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriateΒ expectations of their abilities.
- Create lesson plans for daily activities in line with the school curriculum
- Engage with young children in age-appropriate, learning enriched activities
- Foster a positive and healthy learning environment
- Ensure the classroom is kept in a clean and safe condition at all times
- Interact with other teachers and administrative staff as needed
- Communicate with parents regarding child development and progress

Camp Professional Potential Responsibilities May Include:
- Assisting with staff recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding
- Supporting enrollment efforts, family communication, and tours
- Planning and coordinating special events, open houses, and community outreach
- Contributing to program development and summer planning
- Participating in staff training and leadership meetings
- Serving as a Division Director or similar leadership role during the summer, supervising staff and campers within a designated age group
- Collaborating with the year-round leadership team on camp operations and initiatives
Head Teacher Qualifications
- Have at least 3 years of experience working with children and a degree in early childhood education/elementary education, or similar experience.
- Prior teaching experience is required.Β Β
- NYS teaching certification or equivalent preferred. (Not required)Β
- Strong knowledge of educational techniques and methods for teaching young children
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's Degree
