Stony Brook Child Care is a not-for-profit center that has been providing child care for Stony Brook University and the surrounding community for over 50 years. We are a full-day, year round program serving families with children ages 2 month-5 years. The center is open Monday-Friday 7:30-5:30. We utilize a team-teaching structure and our philosophy focuses on a child-centered, open-ended, and anti-bias approach to early childhood education and care. This is an early childhood team teaching position based in either and infant/toddler or a preschool multi-age classroom at Stony Brook Child Care. The goal is to provide high quality care and education to children ranging in age from 2 months to 3 years (infant/toddler) or 3 years to 5 years (preschool). Additionally, the Center is a practicum site for undergraduate interns who will be supervised and mentored by this staff person.
- Teaching: Provides daily care and education to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of children in accordance with SBCC philosophy
- Administration: Participates in administrative duties that involve scheduling, hiring, adapting curriculum, monitoring the condition of the facility and availability of supplies
- Student Intern Program: Supervises and serves as a role model for undergraduate interns as well as participates in seminars and the grading process
Required:
- 1 year of related early childhood experience
- Associates Degree or credit equivalent or completion of an early childhood accredited course. (In lieu of the educational requirements, 2 years of full time professional experience in the field of Early Childhood will be considered)
Preferred:
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Experience in a full day, early childhood setting
- Experience in a child care setting
- Minimum Education Level: Some College Credits
- Preferred Education Level: Associate's Degree
