Organization Statement

Under the guidance of the Director, Child Care Services, implement a developmentally appropriate UPK classroom utilizing the Greece Central School District prekindergarten curriculum and assessments. Work as a team to implement daily learning activities and care, using knowledge of the children’s social relations, interests, ideas and skills to tailor learning opportunities for groups and individuals. Develop strategies to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Position requires ability to supervise assistant teacher and volunteers and work collaboratively to develop an action plan for growth and success of the individual.

Job Description

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates an environment that supports children's growth and development.
  • Follows the UPK curriculum from the Greece Central School District to provide weekly plans which meet individual as well as group needs.
  • Attends Greece Central School District professional development days.
  • Attends Greece Central School District prekindergarten study group meetings.
  • Maintains accurate individual records for each child and uses them to set goals for individual children.
  • Establishes and achieves annual goals for classroom.
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with all of the children and their families.
  • Effectively guides children's behavior in an age appropriate and positive manner.
  • Conferences with parents effectively and appropriately.
  • Supervises and guides assistant teachers and volunteers and makes appropriate recommendations for performance appraisals.
  • Constructively participates in staff meetings and meetings with supervisor.
  • Meets the physical, social, cognitive, emotional and cultural needs of individual children.
  • Attends a minimum of 15 hours of training every year.
  • Communicates appropriately with families regarding children's daily activities both verbally and written as needed.
  • Ensures the safety of the children and promotes good health habits.
  • Works with colleagues and community representatives to support children and families.

Qualifications
  • NYS Teaching Certification (N-6 or Birth-2), OR commit to working towards certificationΒ 
    within five years of employment.
  • BS Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education or similar
  • Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred Education Level: NYS Teacher Certification
