Salary/Wage: $50,000 - $55,000 a year (DREAM offers a competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience with the potential for an annual performance-based increase. The incoming salary range for this position is $50,000 to $55,000. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. All staff are eligible for annual performance-based increases. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges. We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for medical plans and subsidizing the majority of costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Description:

Reporting to the Pre-K Dean, the Pre-K Assistant Teacher will be responsible for working with the lead teacher to drive student outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has a desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families and community and has a commitment to working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the Every Child Ready, RULER, and CGI curriculum;
  • Teach math small groups and enter data;
  • Abide by school-wide protocols for documenting all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, etc.;
  • Collaborate with the Pre-K team to administer academic and social development assessments and analyze data to best inform instruction;
  • Revise curriculum and teaching methods based on measurable data; 
  • Set and maintain high expectations for 100% of the scholars, 100% of the time;
  • Abide by school-wide practices for behavior management and individual behavior plans; 
  • Take ownership over classroom management; 
  • Collect work samples and observations;
  • Support with meals: serve breakfast, and sit with scholars at the table; sit with scholars during lunch;
  • Supervise naptime;
  • Ensure centers are setup before arrival of scholars;
  • Maintain current work on bulletin boards each month;
  • Regularly communicate scholars’ progress towards goals with families;
  • Attend and be an active participant in all professional development (school-wide or team-based) opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • NYS Certification in Early Childhood (Birth–Grade 2); Nursery, Kindergarten and Grades 1–6 (N–6); Prekindergarten–Grade 6 (P–6); or Students with Disabilities (Birth–Grade 2), strongly preferred;
  • At least one years of teaching experience, strongly preferred;
  • Success in working collaboratively with staff on culture and instruction;
  • Strong work ethic and solutions-oriented mindset, with a desire and ability to solve problems;
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred;
  • A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the belief that all students can succeed, and a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.
