The role of The Staten Island Head Start Program and its collaborating partners is to provide comprehensive services to children and their families. We are dedicated to serving the community and being a vital link between the families of Staten Island and all available community resources.
β’ Maintain the required written documents including: plan book, the Child Observation Record (C.O.R.), anecdotal records, periodic and ongoing assessments and a portfolio for each child in the classroom.
β’ Organize the learning environment to include: a daily schedule, learning centers, a clearly posted chart of any dietary restrictions
β’ Provide experiences which will encourage each child to develop social ,emotional, cognitive and self-help skills
β’ The teacher will work closely with the assistant and aide in planning, assessing and determine educational needs for children.
β’ Bring to the attention of the Education Director or Assistant Director, any child who may need special medical, emotional or educational services.
β’ Participate in CPSE/IESP conferences for children with disabilities
β’ Supervise all classroom volunteers, which may include: student teachers, student interns, nursing students, foster grandparents and child care workers.
β’ Plan and supervise trips that will enhance the childβs educational experience and social development.
β’ Follow the policy and procedures in place for the signing in/out of children (including bus) and the policy and procedures for the counting of children.
β’ Organize activities that will inform parents of their childβs progress, including two yearly Family Partnership conversations.
β’ Conduct two home visits per child annually: one visit prior to enrollment and a second visit at the end of the school year.
β’ Share planned activities and goals with the Education Director and Parent Group individually and at scheduled meetings.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Β· Masterβs Degree in Early Childhood Education
Β· New York State Certification Professional BIRTH βGRADE 2 or Permanent PRE-K-6
Β· Two Years Early Childhood Education teaching experience Skills Required:
Β· Bilingual Spanish a plus
Β· Strong computer skills
Β· Ability to communicate effectively and be able to work in a team
Β· Must be multi-tasked and able to prioritize competing demands
Β· Comprehensive knowledge of early childhood education
Β· Ability to creatively motivate and engage studentsβ interests
Β· Attend educational training workshops and in-service sessions planned for staff.
Β· Strong analytical, interpersonal and writing skills required
- Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's Degree
- Preferred Education Level: NYS Teacher Certification
