The Baruch College Early Learning Center (ELC) provides childcare services to CUNY students, faculty and staff. The Center is deeply committed to providing reliable, high-quality children services, allowing students to achieve their degrees, while strengthening families and uplifting the wider community. As part of its Mission, the Center provides a developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants and children through 5 years-old, with referral and intervention services when needed. The Center also offers a range of family support services to improve the lives of student-parents.
The Lead Teacher plans, manages, and conducts a comprehensive early education and care program for a group of 10 toddlers in a classroom setting.Β The Lead Teacher supervises assistant teachers, teacherβs aide, student interns and work study students.Β Β
- Developing and implementing appropriate curriculum.
- Daily thoughtful interaction with children and their families
- Maintaining close contact with student-parents, and interacting with students, faculty and staff
- Maintaining a safe (NYCDOHMH regulated), aesthetically pleasing, culturally and developmentally appropriate classroom environment
- Documenting childrenβs engagement and process of learning for reflective teaching practice
- Involvement in on-going professional development initiatives including staff meetings, NYCDOHMH required health and safety trainings, NAEYC accreditation initiatives, and maintaining current and relevant knowledge of early education and perspectives
- Assist with the planning and implementation of staff development initiatives and special events
Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Early Childhood Education, New York State Certification. At least two years of experience working with children younger than five years old is preferred. Candidates must be warm, supportive of very young children and responsive to their needs, as well as a hard-working and organized team player.
The lead teacher works with a team to plan, manage and conduct comprehensive early education and care programs for toddlers and preschool children.
- Minimum Education Level: NYS Teacher Certification
- Preferred Education Level: Bachelor's Degree
