Job Description

A teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Teachers plan and implement age-appropriate activities, observe and assess children's progress, maintain positive relationships with families, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. They serve as positive role models, encourage children's curiosity and independence, and promote a love of learning through meaningful interactions and educational experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for all children.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Follow and implement the Experience Early Learning curriculum.
  • Supervise children at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Observe, assess, and document children's progress and developmental milestones.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and child observation records.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child's development, behavior, and daily activities.
  • Promote positive behavior through guidance and age-appropriate classroom management techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations and program policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with meal service, classroom transitions, and daily routines.
  • Report concerns regarding child health, safety, or welfare to the Director immediately.
  • Support inclusion and respect for diversity among children and families.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and ethical conduct.

Reports To: Director/Owner

Position Goal: To provide high-quality care and education that supports children's growth, learning, and school readiness while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for children and families.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with young children in a childcare, preschool, or educational setting.
  • Ability to develop and implement age-appropriate learning activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment.
  • Current certification in Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED (or willingness to obtain).
  • Completion of all required New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) training requirements.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and clearances.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Associate Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Experience using curriculum-based learning programs.
  • Experience working with diverse children and families.
  • Familiarity with New York State childcare licensing regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and actively participate in children's activities.
  • Ability to supervise children indoors and outdoors for extended periods.
  • Minimum Education Level: CDA Credential
  • Preferred Education Level: Associate's Degree
