The Arc Westchester's Children’s School for Early Development provides educational, social and support services for children, from birth to five years of age, and their families. These services are provided based on the philosophy that children and their families should be given a choice of resources to maximize their child’s potential.
Job Description
We are seeking caring, patient, and dependable paraprofessionals to support students and teachers in our special education preschool program. The Classroom Aides/1:1 Aides work closely with the classroom teacher and related service providers to help create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where all children can grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Support preschool students with varying developmental and learning needs throughout the school day
- Assist the teacher in implementing classroom activities, lessons, and individualized learning plans
- Provide support during transitions, play, meals, toileting, and other daily routines
- Encourage positive social interactions, communication, and independence skills
- Help maintain a structured, nurturing classroom environment
- Assist with behavior support strategies under the direction of the teacher and related staff
- Prepare classroom materials and help maintain an organized learning space
- Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, arrival/dismissal, and other school routines
- Assist with daily living skills as needed (e.g., feeding, toileting, etc.)
- Work in collaboration with related service providers including Occupational, Physical, and Speech and Language Therapists
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with students and families
Qualifications
Experience working with young children; work with special needs children a plus, but will train
- Minimum Education Level: Highschool Graduate or GED
- Preferred Education Level: Some College Credits
