Behavioral Support Worker

Marcus Ave New Hyde Park location

Mon-Fri 8-3:30p Full-time 35 hours per week

Marcus Avenue currently serves nearly 300 children from ages six weeks to five years of age. We offer infant and toddler day care, integrated preschool and self-contained pre-school special education classes with an option of extended care should the family desire. Home and community based services are also available.

Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Provide direct instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified special education teacher
  • Assist the assigned teacher as requested in all areas of the daily classroom routine
  • Assist the children as requested by the teacher; maintain health and safety of the classroom environment by performing assigned tasks; prepare classroom materials as requested by teacher
  • Assists psychologists, behavioral personnel and educational staff with the implementation of schoolwide positive behavioral support systems

Classroom assignment is subject to change based on program needs.  

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Working towards a valid New York State Certificate as a Teaching Assistant, Level I within six (6) months of employment
  • Fingerprint and SCR clearance required
  • Experience working with preschool special education population
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work effectively and cooperatively
  • Experience working with preschool population preferred.
