Description:

The Certified Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality education and care to young children in a daycare/preschool setting. This role involves planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities, fostering a safe and nurturing environment, and working collaboratively with other staff members, children, and families to support the academic, social, and emotional development of the children.

Responsibilities:

  1. Child Development & Learning:

    • Create and implement lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with early childhood education standards.
    • Use a variety of teaching methods (e.g., play-based learning, hands-on activities, group activities) to promote children’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development.
    • Observe and assess children’s developmental progress, documenting and communicating individual growth and areas needing attention.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of each child in the classroom.
  2. Classroom Management:

    • Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment.
    • Use age-appropriate strategies to manage behavior and foster positive relationships between children.
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom, ensuring that materials and supplies are used properly and safely.
    • Monitor children during classroom activities, outdoor play, mealtimes, and transitions to ensure their safety and well-being.
  3. Collaboration & Communication:

    • Work closely with other teachers, aides, and support staff to ensure continuity and consistency in teaching practices and classroom management.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding the child’s development, behavior, and any concerns.
    • Attend and participate in team meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development opportunities as required.
    • Maintain clear records of daily activities, attendance, and other necessary documentation for children.
  4. Curriculum Development:

    • Plan and adapt curriculum that incorporates various learning domains such as language and literacy, math, science, social studies, and the arts.
    • Incorporate cultural diversity, inclusion, and social-emotional learning into the curriculum.
    • Engage children in activities that stimulate curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
  5. Health, Safety & Well-being:

    • Follow all health and safety guidelines and daycare policies to ensure the well-being of children.
    • Administer first aid and/or medications as necessary, and report any accidents or injuries to the director and parents.
    • Ensure all children’s needs are met throughout the day, including bathroom breaks, meals, naps, and emotional support.
  6. Professional Development:

    • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, including workshops, courses, and certifications, to stay up-to-date with current early childhood education trends and best practices.
    • Maintain certification in CPR, first aid, and other relevant credentials.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field (required).
    • Valid teaching certification or state credentials for early childhood education (required).
  • Experience:

    • At least [2] years of experience in a daycare, preschool, or early childhood education setting (preferred).
    • Experience with curriculum planning, classroom management, and working with children of various developmental levels.
  • Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of early childhood development and education standards.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with children, parents, and staff.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Patience, creativity, and adaptability in meeting the needs of young children.
    • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education Level: NYS Teacher Certification
