The First Five Years Fund just released the results of a national survey which revealed an overwhelming support for early childhood education. Here are the some of the highlights from this study:
- 86% of voters stated that “ensuring children get a strong start” is an important national priority, second to “increasing jobs and economic growth.”
- 70% of voters stated “that we should be doing more to ensure that children begin kindergarten with proper knowledge and skills to succeed.”
- Seven-in-ten American voters support a federal plan to help states and local communities provide better early childhood education. Support for this proposal increases as voters understand that it does not add to the deficit.
- There is a wide-range of support for this proposal across diverse political and demographic groups.
-
63% prefer congress to “take action now” rather than “wait until later to consider this proposal.”
