Understanding PP-3

Why is it important to provide new employees with a comprehensive orientation?

A well-organized, comprehensive employee orientation plan helps a new employee become familiar with the policies and procedures of an organization.

New employees often experience a great deal of stress and uncertainty their first few weeks on the job. Employers and co-workers can help new employees understand the guidelines for job performance, be aware of regulations, become familiar with safety and emergency evacuation procedures, know what is expected of them on a day-to-day basis, and understand who they can go to for assistance and guidance.

Employers who invest the time to develop a comprehensive orientation plan often see an improvement in retention of employees which reduces turnover and provides a more consistent routine for young children.

When employees feel welcomed, valued, and supported in their new positions they will quickly learn their new job and be able to better meet the expectations of the employer.
