Understanding PP-1

Why is it necessary to have written job descriptions for each position?

Written job descriptions for each position help employers to clearly define their expectations of each position and they help employees understand the essential duties and responsibilities of their position.

Written job descriptions are determined by the needs and culture of the organization but may include:

  • Minimum qualifications for the position (educational level) and/or relevant experience or knowledge
  • Duties required including any physical requirements such as, lifting, bending, carrying, etc.
  • Organizational chart- who the employee directly reports to (ex. Lead teacher reports to Program coordinator)
  • Salary range
  • Length of workweek/workday
