Description:

Reporting to the Faculty Co-Directors, the On-site Director will oversee the daily operations of the Center including curriculum development, personnel management and administrative responsibilities. The center serves four (4) key functions: as a child care and early childhood education service to the TC/Columbia community, as pre-service teacher preparation, as site for early childhood research, and as a hub for community outreach.  We seek a Director with a vested interest in supporting these functions through their leadership.

Responsibilities:

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative & Budgeting

  • Manage all hiring, scheduling, supervision, professional development, etc. of approximately 30 employees, comprising of lead teachers, PT assistant teachers, students and part time office staff
  • Oversee and manage the annual budget for the center, with support from office staff
  • Ensure the daily operation of the center meets all DOHMH and Teachers College required guidelines by working with various college offices (Facilities, Environmental Safety, Purchasing, etc.)
  • Provides classroom coverage, as needed, to ensure required DOHMH ratios are met
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies in a prompt, proactive, positive and professional manner
  • Manage the purchasing and maintenance of inventory
  • Secure and maintain all necessary health/emergency records
  • Responsible for accident/incident reporting
  • Lead compliance with licensing and accreditation standards, health and safety protocols, company policies, and new employee orientation

Curriculum Development

  • Develop and implement plans, policies, and procedures that are in compliance with all DOH guidelines
  • Supervise (scheduling, support as needed in classroom) student teachers and practicum students (approximately 8-10 per semester)
  • Oversee and manage research operations at the center (with faculty co-directors)
  • Serve as a thought leader and action researcher in early childhood education, and guides the development of curricular, pedagogical, and administrative practices
  • Utilize proven observation and evaluation tools to ensure RGC remains a leader in providing high quality early care and education
    Staff Supervisor, Coaching and Development
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, development, and evaluation in regard to staff performance
  • Create a learning culture that recruits and retains high-quality teaching staff in all classrooms
  • Create community by spearheading all parent communication and establish strong relationships with both the children and parents
  • Provide oversight of the execution and implementation of the curriculum in conjunction with with faculty co-directors
  • Understand technology use in classrooms, remote learning, and communications with families
  • Collaboration
  • Represent and advocate for the Center within, and outside of, the Teachers College institution
  • Liaise with various college wide departments for support/teacher professional development/parent workshops (with faculty co-directors)
  • Collaborate closely with faculty co-directors on curriculum, professional development, and community outreach
  • Communicate and liaison with interested, new, and continuing families (oversees admissions and exmissions; parent workshops, school events, etc.)
  • Be accessible to parents, children, and staff daily as the representative of the Rita Gold Center, providing the highest level of customer service and support to all children and families

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education
  • 3 years as a lead teacher for birth to 5 years
  • Two years employee supervisory experience
  • Must meet standards for licensing requirements (fingerprinting, child abuse check, etc.)
  • Must have knowledge of DOH rules and regulations (familiarity with Article 47)
  • Experience managing budgets, purchasing, contract compliance and data collection and management
  • Ability to objectively evaluate teachers’ performance, and based on the assessment of the staff, work to develop individual professional development plans
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Excel, and adaptability to new systems and databases
  • Strong leadership and management skills as well as innovative training strategies to engage and meet the learning needs of adult learners
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience supervising/directing programs for young children
  • Previous experience navigating university institutions
  • Knowledge of/experience with early childhood teacher education
  • Familiarity with emergent and/or play-based curricula
  • Interest in working collaboratively with diverse populations
Minimum Education Level: NYS Teacher Certification
Preferred Education Level: Master's Degree
