Description:
The Program Director is responsible for upholding and advancing One World Project’s mission through program development (preschool, after school, camps, playgroups, and parent education), faculty supervision and growth, outreach to the NYC educational community, and overall program assessment and evaluation. The role offers an opportunity to guide, support, and extend the teaching and learning process at OWP and ensure continuity and coherence across the organization’s programs. The Program Director works closely with teachers, the Education Director, and the Executive Director to take forward key educational initiatives and community events.
Responsibilities:
The Program Director reports to the Executive Director and supervises teachers across preschool, camp, playgroups, and parent education programs.
Professional Development & Supervision
- Nurturing, developing, and evaluating program teachers to ensure their growth as experienced educators and leaders through frequent observation and feedback and bi-annual appraisal conversations
- Identifying high quality professional development workshops for teachers and/or creating individualized workshops to support teachers’ continued growth and development
- Ensuring the development and documentation of plans and best pedagogical practices aligned to OWP’s vision and mission
- Supervising interaction with children, parents, and general professionalism
- Working with the Education Director to develop comprehensive assessment and evaluation tools. This includes a system for observing and recording children’s actions, interactions, and development
- Working with the Education Director to develop, align, and document an overall professional development program that meets needs and challenges thinking to better achieve OWP’s mission of nurturing global citizens and stewards of the environment
- Incorporating workshops on effective communication, especially in difficult situations
- Designing and leading meetings with classroom teams, individual teachers and weekly staff meetings that provide an opportunity for reflection and big picture thinking about One World Project’s mission and future (e.g. reading about best practices, inviting guest speakers, encouraging debate on big educational issues, etc.)
Curriculum Design & Collaboration
- Collaborating and critically analyzing teaching plans for programs to ensure that activities are thoughtful, intentional, relevant to children and their communities, developmentally appropriate and connected to One World Project’s mission
- Being a resource for program teachers to plan lessons/activities and problem-solve challenges that arise in their classrooms
- Gaining knowledge of local artists, events, and community-based organizations ass possible resources for teachers
- Approving field trip plans
Program Assessment & Evaluation
- Assessing the overall effectiveness of each program by developing a set of standard criteria and metrics and regularly observing each program
- Regularly communicating with program teachers, the Education Director, and the Executive Director about these observations and plans to leverage strengths and address challenges
- Guiding program teachers in how to analyze and use observations and assessments to inform planning.
Administration & Outreach
- Cultivating relationships with parents and the broader community that fosters participation and contributes to children’s and organization’s development. This includes developing and conducting parent and houses for prospective families and fundraising activities/community events related to OWP’s mission and education philosophy, and attending special events or functions such as information sessions
- Building relationships with key professors who can aid in recruitment and support training needs
- Ensuring and maintaining that program teachers’ folders are up-to-date and include all required information
- Managing program budgets and ordering necessary classroom supplies;
- Mapping the landscape of professional development providers in New York City, with an emphasis on preparing bilingual educators, to build a comprehensive database of the best resources organized by theme and priority (e.g. CPR & first aid, MAT training, science in early childhood education, etc.)
- Tracking of all professional development efforts according to DOH requirements
- Managing teachers’ schedules and finding or serving as a substitute when required
- Developing a roster of qualified substitute faculty (i.e. have health forms, references, fingerprints, background checks)
- Representing One World Project at teacher recruitment events and building relationships with Education/Executive Directors at other relevant organizations
Leadership Team Collaboration & Strategic Planning
- Being one of One World Project’s “big thinkers” and collaborating with the leadership team to learn from OWP’s past and shape its present and future
- Actively participating in the hiring process for future teachers and administrative staff to ensure that One World Project maintains a strong team aligned to the organization’s mission
Personal Development & Growth
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, articulating strengths, areas for improvement, and realistic goals to guide growth and reflection
- Seeking and being open to regular feedback from the Executive Director as well as other colleagues
- Actively participating in and preparing for bi-annual appraisal conversations with the Executive Director
- Proactively seeking and engaging in relevant professional development opportunities aligned to personal and professional goals and interests
- Thinking big regarding his/her own growth and future in the One World Project family
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferably with an emphasis on bilingual education
- New York State Early Childhood Teaching Certification
- At least five years of experience working with young children ages 2 to 5 in school or afterschool settings
- Experience leading and developing teams
- Knowledgeable about New York City-based early and bilingual education programs
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills as well as proven problem-solving skills
- Initiative and resourcefulness
- Positive attitude and the ability to be a team player; and
- Demonstrated commitment to One World Project’s mission.

Additional Information:
Hours
The Program Director is a full-time salaried position. Hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Because of the nature of OWP’s work, the Program Director is likely to work additional hours on evenings and weekends beyond standard working hours.
Salary & Benefits
The salary is competitive and is based on experience, degree/s, and certification/s. The salary ranges $60-80,000 annually.
