An experienced educational professional is needed to lead and administer the programs and services of East Tremont Child Care and Development Center (ETCCDC), a 3-classroom pre-school child care center that has served the East Tremont Community for more than 50 years.    Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Educational Director is generally responsible for the effective operation of all program components including educational programming, preventive health and social services, nutrition, staff development, parent involvement, office and facilities management, and community outreach.

Responsibilities:

the Director’s duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop, maintain, and implement high quality programs that support and promote the cognitive, social, and emotional development of the children enrolled in the Center
  • Develop curriculum and monitor lesson development to ensure quality instruction and care
  • Recruit teachers and other staff as needed, and make hiring recommendations to the Board
  • Train and supervise teachers, other program staff, and volunteers
  • Recruit children to ensure that enrollment targets are met and maintained
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and staff development that are consistent with professional goals and maintenance of certification, and which increase teachers’ knowledge of effective instructional strategies and assessment
  • Conduct annual staff evaluations
  • Provide oversight for teachers’ evaluation of children
  • Meet standards and requirements of the Center’s funding and regulatory agencies
  • Insure the accurate collection, maintenance, and availability of all records required by funding and licensing agencies
  • Develop a staffing pattern that maintains sufficient student-teacher ratios and coverage at all times
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment that successfully engages staff, children, and their families
  • Insure the efficient management of all aspects of the program including menu planning and meal service in accordance with CACFP standards to make sure that children’s nutritional needs are met
  • Maintain regular communication with the fiscal consultant and bookkeeper regarding the Center’s budget, expenditures, and fee collection
  • Prepare monthly status reports to the Board covering enrollment, staffing, facilities, program operation, staff development, parent/community outreach and engagement
  • Develop and implement parent-engagement activities
  • Establish relationships and partnerships with community-based offices and organizations
  • Meet with the Board of Directors as requested during the year
  • Provide all correspondence to oversight agencies for review by the Board of Directors before submission

Qualifications:

Qualifications:  The successful applicant must have a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or a related field, valid New York State certification, and a minimum of three years experience as a group teacher in a pre-school setting.  In addition, the position requires that the candidate possess strong leadership skills as well as skills in time management, problem solving, organization, basic computer programs, and the ability to communicate clearly in written and oral forms. Salary and benefits as per CSA contract.
