Description:

Each teacher assistant is responsible for the implementation of the center's educational program. She/he is accountable to the Site Director. She/he is required to adhere to all OCFS Regulations.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions Responsibilities:

● Responsible for executing age appropriate activities to accomplish the goals and support the philosophy of CCDP.

● Must be actively engaged with the children at all times, when not dealing with classroom maintenance responsibilities.

● Interact with children in ways that encourage them to communicate, think, and solve problems.

● Accept every child as a worthy human being and let them know with verbal and nonverbal clues.

● Help children accept and appreciate themselves and each other.

● Use a variety of positive methods to help children control their negative behavior.

● Make sure no child is ever left unsupervised.

● Teacher assistants will be friendly and accommodating to parents and will communicate parents' concerns to classroom teachers or their direct supervisor.

● Teacher assistants will work together as a team with other staff assigned to the group.

● Other responsibilities include the following:

● You may be asked by the Executive Director or Site Director to do extra things at certain times. These "extras" will be fairly assigned.

Qualifications:

Must meet one of the following:

● High School Diploma

● Some experience (1 year preferred) working with young children, school-age children(SA programs) and/or

● Some coursework in early childhood education, school-age credential or a related field.

● Plans to continue higher education needed for placement

Physical Requirements:

● Lifting: must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

● Must be able to stand, sit (sometimes on low children’s chairs), walk, stoop, bend, and sit on the floor

● Must be able to take an active part in fire drills

● Must be able to maneuver up and down stairs with ease during fire drills or in case of an emergency at sites that require the use of stairs

● Must be able to accompany and interact with children on field trips

● Must be able to ride a bus

● Must be able to go outside and interact with the children on a daily basis (weather permitting)

● Must be able to complete paperwork and do computer entry requirements
