The Associate Director of Early Childhood Education serves as an integral part of the Early Childhood management team and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the early childhood department. They will provide leadership, support, and direction to ensure that programmatic goals and objectives, as well as regulatory compliance requirements, are met for seven Early Childhood Centers (ECE).

The Associate Director of Early Childhood Education supervises the Family Child Care Network (FCCN) Director, Center Directors, and collaborates with the Deputy Director of Compliance and Administration, Education and Disabilities Director, as well as with the Director of Family and Community Engagement. Additionally, the Deputy Director of Early Childhood Education develops and maintains quality standards of early childhood education designed to meet the educational, emotional, physical, and social needs of individual children.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall management with policy and procedural enforcement of all seven ECE centers.
  • Implement staff hiring, training, and management practices.
  • Develop educational programs and standards appropriate to the age and developmental level of children.
  • Help create and support a culture of high performance, continuing program improvement, and continuously enhanced program quality by managing center directors in day-to-day operations.
  • Foster and maintain positive and supportive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide training and professional development for staff members.
  • Serve as a mediator and make recommendations for solutions when conflicts arise (staff and
  • parents).
  • Coordinate with Leadership and staff to maintain corrective action plans and develop quality improvement strategies.
  • Support the Director of Compliance and Administration with ensuring site coverage (including kitchen, maintenance, and director-level staff).
  • Provide written procedures and documentation formats for quality assurance tasks, and establish standard operating procedures in accordance with ACS and Head Start regulations.
  • Utilize key information systems to run key reports and track data and trends (ACS Web Enrollment System, Pre-Kids, Teaching Strategies Gold, Program Information Reports, etc.).
  • Assist program staff in meeting Federal, State, and local code and regulations and accrediting body standards (Including ACS, Head Start, and CACFP).
  • Ensure compliance with ERSEA (policies regarding Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance) in Head Start in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Prepare Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Reports for internal Leadership to review.
  • Collect and track Incidents that occur across all 7 sites and manage incident review committees.
  • Provide direct oversight of DAPC and all of its functions (including but not limited to parent elections, DAPC meeting requirements, and DAPC by-laws).
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Educational/Site Director, the Director of Operations, and the Director of Early Childhood Education.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Education.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in EC management.
  • NYS Teachers Certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Early Learn, UPK, and CACFP.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Head Start and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Excellent organizational ability and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and training skills.
  • Overall flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
  • Attentive to details, planning, and organization.
  • Skilled in identifying problems and brainstorming potential solutions; high degree of diplomacy.
  • Excellent at written and oral communication, and computer-savvy with Microsoft Office and
  • database programs.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with a service-oriented approach.
  • A demonstrated commitment to addressing the needs of individuals and families in underserved communities.
