The assistant teacher shall meet the requirements set by the Agency for Child Development and the sponsoring agency for the day care center in which he is employed

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the group teacher, the assistant teacher shall be responsible for:

I.          WORKING WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE SPONSORING AGENCY of the day care center and carrying out its functions, policies and procedures; observing the schedules in the center and adhering to its established personnel policies and practice.

II.        ASSISTING IN THE SUPERVISION OF A GIVEN GROUP OF CHILDREN

A.        To assist in the planning and execution of a program to provide day care for children which takes into account the educational, social, developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.

B. 1.     To share responsibility for keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition to encourage maximum constructive use by children

2.         To share responsibility for removing or reporting any damaged or hazardous equipment to the director or other designated person so that necessary action may be taken

             

C. 1.       To share responsibility for planning and supervising an appropriate arrangement of classroom equipment and furniture design to  promote optimal program functioning

           

2.         To assist in the overall planning for the best use of shared space in relation to the total center program

D.        To assist in planning the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children’s program

E.         To assist in developing a program of sound educational goals, appropriate to the age and developmental level of children which will enable them to make the most of future educational opportunities

 

III.       RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

    1. To share with classroom associates their mutual knowledge and understanding of sponsoring agency and the community which their center serves
    2. To promote his or her own professional growth and development through participation in regularly scheduled individual conferences, classroom group conference, and staff meetings.
    3. To share with other classroom personnel the performance of routine chores related to all areas of program
    4. To participate, wherever feasible, in related training opportunities as these become available
    5. To participate in objective discussions on his/her own professional performance in supervisory conferences with the group teacher and /or director

IV.       DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING A POSITIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH PARENTS

    1. Adhering to the approved plan by which information concerning the children and program can be shared with the parents
    2. Attending and participating in group parent meetings
    3. Respecting the confidential nature of all information about parents and children

V.        MAINTAINING A GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIP AND OBJECTIVE ATTITUDES WITH OTHER CENTER PERSONNEL       

            

VI.       SHARING IN THE USE AND WRITING OF RECORDS, such as required and necessary for the development of the program and for work with the individual child, the group and any student or volunteers may be assigned

Writing, keeping, using and sharing with appropriate staff members such records as are required and necessary for the effective administration of the center, the development of the program, work with the individual child and group, students or volunteers

VII.     OTHER RELATED DUTIES, as assigned, consistent with the above and including the fulfillment of full program responsibility for the group in the absence of the group teacher
