Early Head Start Teacher

Description:

  • Be the primary caregiver for up to four children in the classroom
  • Initiate daily classroom activities to promote exploration through physical, emotional, cognitive and linguistic domains (e.g. sing-a-longs, art projects, sensory exploration, and outdoor gross motor stimulation)
  • Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times
  •  Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, hand washing)
  • Approach parents daily and speak with them about their child(ren)
  • Creating and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children
  • Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service
  • Supervise teacher aides in the classroom and ensure they are following program policy and customer service expectations
  •  Train any teacher aides in the classroom and direct them as to what duties need to be carried out throughout the day
  • Plan daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children
  • Conduct child assessments and facilitate parent-teacher conferences
  • Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights
  •  Prepare weekly lesson plans according to policy
  • Be responsible for daily sheets and the daily activities pertaining to eating, sleeping, and diaper changing
  • Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times
  • Respond to the children through appropriate touching, holding, smiling and speaking in a positive tone of voice to convey acceptance and positive self-worth.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

a) 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field and two years experience caring for children. Candidates at this level of experience must have a plan to study for an Infant/Toddler Childhood Development Associate (CDA) Credential or Associate's Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development.

OR

b) Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and one year experience caring for children

OR

c) Associate's Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development or related field.

Wages:

  • For qualification level a): $14.93 / hour.
