East Harlem Block Nursery, Inc. – Early Childhood Education Program
East Harlem Block Nursery, Inc. day care centers provide a warm and safe environment that supports and enhances the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional development of young children. Teachers implement the Creative Curriculum, which fosters the development of a positive self-concept and cognitive skills, with a focus on the creative process, integrating music, movement, drama, and arts and crafts. Our centers are licensed by the New York City Department of Health and meet the requirements of all regulatory agencies. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and committed early childhood educator and administrator to be the Educational Director at East Harlem Block Nursery in Harlem. The ideal candidate should possess a passion for building a quality early education program and display a demonstrated level of management skills to supervise teaching staff and direct the overall program. Additionally, the ideal candidate can ensure classroom safety and prepare and evaluate the curriculum for children to be kindergarten-ready.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for Facilities Management, Staffing Management, Program Administration and Parental Communication and Involvement. Ability to build rapport with teachers, parents, and center staff is integral to the success of this role.

  • Facilities Management- Work with teachers to ensure that all classrooms are safe, attractive, and developmentally appropriate.

  • Staffing Management - Supervise the overall program including: center office manager, teachers, teaching assistants, family workers, janitors, and cook.

  • Program Administration - Ensure compliance with all state and local licensing regulations.

  • Parental Communication and Involvement - Familiarize parents with school policies and provide new parents with orientation. Assist parents to plan, facilitate, and coordinate services for children with disabilities and behavioral needs.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (MA/MS preferred); NYS Certification (Birth to Grade 2)

Experience:

  • Minimum: Three (3) years of supervisory experience in an early child development- related organization. Preferred: Three - Five years in a successful management role with at least three years of preschool teaching experience.

  • Familiarity with Early Childhood Education assessment and evaluation tools as well as national accredited curriculums.

  • Knowledgeable in Early Childhood Education Objectives and Standards.

    Additional Requirement:
    Extensive experience navigating complex local, state, and federal funding agencies’ procedures and processes, specifically New York City agencies: DOE, DOHMH, and ACS.
