Description:

Temple Beth Shalom Early Childhood Center is a vibrant, creative and nurturing program in the heart of Hastings on Hudson, NY.  Our Nursery School is an important piece of our congregation’s history and future, as it is our belief that supporting children and families in today’s world will lead to stronger communities.

All of our teachers are highly engaged, committed and passionate about working with children. As a faculty, we are dedicated life-long learners, focused on continued education and evolving our program to meet the needs of our children. Our program supports a Team Teaching model, which means we are collaborators and enjoy working closely with others. Our classrooms feature one of the best staff to student ratios in the area, making our school an incredibly rewarding and inspiring place to work.

Team Teachers are full teachers and the main support and partner to the Team Leader. They work together with all staff to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, class plans, and to foster a warm, nurturing, creative, inspired learning environment. Many of our Team Teachers have been classroom leads in other programs; this position will also have opportunity for growth.

Responsibilities:

Our ideal candidate will be:

  • Dedicated to working with children, connecting with children, and committed to their social-emotional growth and development.
  • Believe in whole family systems and supporting families through their children.

  • Comfortable working in a team setting, requiring collaboration, communication and respect (no job too big, or too small!)

  • Help implement lesson plans/curriculum that incorporate the most up-to-date research on early childhood development, with awareness of social-emotional learning, early literacy, language development and number concepts in both child-led and teacher-led interactions.

  • Develop and support a classroom schedule and regular routine, from managing health checks and attendance, to performing tasks that keep the classroom organized and moving forward throughout the day.

  • Have Special Education knowledge and background, be comfortable attending EI, CPSE, CSE meetings with our families when needed and collaborate with service providers within the classroom to implement strategies.

  • Nurture a love and respect of Jewish culture by developing curricula that creates age-appropriate awareness of Jewish holidays and traditions.

  • Be tech-savvy, and able to assist the Team Leader in managing our parent communication, have comfort with Google office or a similar platform, explore new avenues for communication, and manage media and photos of the classroom (ability to assist in photo/video editing a plus).

  • Should the need arise, applicants should be comfortable with remote learning settings, including Zoom, leading online programs, delivering packages locally to families or planning pick-up of supplies to families in the Rivertowns — and developing best practices in this area.

  • Teachers should be comfortable with and ready to teach within all COVID-19 guidelines and advisories -- we have stricter guidelines than many programs, and expect all staff to adhere to policies and protocols in and outside of school for the safety of all.

  • Desirable applicants will also be able to staff our extended day programming in the afternoon, from dismissal at 12 until 2 pm.

  • All applicants should be able to perform all physical tasks, including moving from the floor to standing, lifting objects, cleaning/disinfecting materials and setting up classrooms, moving light furniture and actively monitoring classrooms and outdoor spaces.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years in a classroom setting; experience with 2s programs and/or lead teacher experience a plus.

  • Strong background in creating and implementing lesson plans and curriculum.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.

  • A degree in Early Childhood or a related field; graduate level preferred.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education.

  • Special Education background or training a plus.

  • Comfort with classroom communications and working with parents.

  • Previous OCFS licensed program experience a plus, but not required.

Application Instructions:

Interested applicants should forward a cover letter explaining your interest in early childhood, resume (including professional development completed), and if available, samples of class communications (parent newsletter, email updates, wall displays, etc.) to nurseryschool[at]tbshastings[dot]org. Following interviews with the Director and/or Team Leader, qualified applicants may be asked to submit a lesson plan or if COVID restrictions lift, conduct a sample lesson in class.
