Job Summary: Teacher’s Aides will work with the group teacher to plan and execute a program to provide day care for children that takes into account the educational, social, developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.  The Teacher’s Aide will share responsibility with the group teacher for keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition in addition to removing all hazardous material.  He/she will participate in group discussions aimed at developing a program of sound educational goals.   The Teacher’s Aide will promote his/her own personal growth through participating in regularly scheduled individual conferences, classroom group conferences and staff meetings.  The ideal candidate should have experience with working with children and be able to work well with a team.

Essential Functions:

  • Works within the framework of the classroom, carries out its functions, policies and procedures
  • Assists in planning and executing an early childhood program
  • Participates in planning the use of community resources for educational enrichment
  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled classroom conferences and parent meetings
  • Participate in related training opportunities as they become available
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with parents
  • Respects confidential nature of all information about parents and children
  • Writes records concerning the development of the program and children’s progress.
  • Facilitates remote learning sessions with children as needed
  • Assists with child observations
  • Assists Group Teacher with all classroom activities and outings
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completed or are in the process of obtaining the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • First Aid and CPR trainings required and recertified as needed

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms. As a day care worker, providing quality care for children will require a high degree of physical exertion. Must have the ability to lift and hold children, sit down on the floor and stand up frequently and walk quickly around the classroom. In addition due to the high level of energy in the clients during all physical activities and outings, must be able to run, play, and travel with the children. Physical and PPD clearance required.
