Has a thorough understanding of Head Start Performance Standards.
Sets up/ maintains an appropriate classroom environment for preschool children.
Plans and implements a curriculum of developmentally appropriate activities for the children using the Creative Curriculum.
Assesses individual children’s strengths and areas in need of improvement (daily observation notes, formal assessments 3 times yearly) using Teaching Strategies Gold.
Incorporates parent involvement through monthly class meetings, and parent conferences/home visits twice annually.
Adapts and incorporates curriculum for children with special needs in coordination with written IEP’s team planning and parental input, as well as referral out for evaluations.
Attends team meetings monthly.
Attends regular supervision meetings with supervisors.
Participates in available training opportunities (in-service, conferences).
Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director.
Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US
Willing to undergo a fingerprints and background checks in accordance with federal, state and local laws
Minimum level of education: Bachelor Degree or Masters degree in Early Childhood Education.
New York State Teacher Certification B-2 or N-6
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Mandated Reporter Certification a plus.
Experience working with children 3-5 years

Light Work: Lifting 20 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job in this category when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls, or when it requires walking or standing a significant degree.
