La Peninsula is a community-based, multi-site Head Start organization located in the South Bronx. REQUIRED EXPECTATIONS include but are not limited to:
Must have at least 90 to 120 college credits (B.A. in Early Childhood Education) and/or
Must have at least (60) sixty college credits (Early Childhood Education
preferred) and/or
Must have a CDA (Child Development Associate credential) or be enrolled
within a CDA program for completion within two years
Ability to establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service
Ability to implement effective teacher practice, enforce agency policy and procedures and communicates each clearly
Ability to collaborate in a dynamic and fast paced working environment
Attend and engage in occasional agency parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends
Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times
Be a positive role model at all times for staff, families and children
Assistant teachers receive direct guidance and oversight from the Head Teacher in the classroom but are supervised by the Site/Education Director at their assigned work site. Job Summary:
La Peninsula is looking for Assistant Teacher as part of its classroom teaching team. S/he is the person who collaborates and assists the Teacher in providing developmentally appropriate and positive learning experiences for 3-5 year old children in the program. S/he is co-responsible in overseeing the health and safety of the children and in maintaining an environment conducive to the acquisition of skills for socio-emotional competence, physical growth and the formation of intellectual concepts.
Under direct supervision of the Site Director, her/his responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing children with guidance and supervision
Maintaining a clean, healthy and safe learning environment
Assisting in the implementation of the agency approved curriculum that is consistent with the Head Start performance standards
Supporting the implementation of daily lessons and learning activities
Engaging in collaborative learning and working opportunities with the Head Teacher
Implementing effective teacher practice and enforces agency policies and procedures
Assisting in maintaining accurate reports and records for all students
Assisting in the implementation of student assessment and evaluation
Communicating with families about daily classroom events, children’s progress, etc.
Maintaining and securing all materials and equipment in assigned classrooms
Assisting in the preparation of quarterly workshops for parents under guidance of the Teacher
Participating in agency activities to promote professional growth
