The NYC Early Childhood Network is part of the THRIVE NYC Initiative. The Child Center of NY is part of this exciting network and provides evidence based, early childhood mental health consultation programming to Early Learn and UPKs throughout Queens, NY. The program has been developed to meet the social/emotional needs of children birth to five. ECMH-C is designed to build the capacity of caregivers by identifying strengths, offering support, education, and consultation, which promotes the most enduring, and optimal outcomes for young children. 

The ECMH Consultant is responsible for reducing the risk factors associated with suspension and expulsion of young children by providing supports and consultation in order to maintain them in their early care and education settings. The Consultants provides supports based upon the unique and expressed needs of each individual center, director, teacher, and child/family. It allows for both the structure necessary to maintain a uniformity of best practice and consistent data collection on a statewide level; as well as allowing for the flexibility necessary to meet individual needs.

Responsibilities:

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following Essential Functions:

  • Provide services that are available on a continuum of care that including phone consultation, Child-Specific, Classroom, Intensive Site services and community based consultation and training.
  • Standardized pre- and post-assessments
  • On-site classroom observations and technical assistancE
  • A team approach to goal development and implementation
  • Action Plans
  • Center and community trainings
  • Referrals to community agencies
  • Center policy and director support
  • Development and facilitation of center based Behavioral Health Teams
  • Building community collaborative
  • Community based monthly mental health consultation or parent groups
  • Follow up services and satisfaction surveys
  • Progrss notes and reporting
  • Opportunity to receive training in Child Parent Psychotherapy and carry a small clinical case load
  • Travel required no more than 5 sites.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • The position requires a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or MHC, Art Therapy, Marriage & Family Therapy
  • At least 2 years of post-graduate experience working in the field of mental health with young children and families
  • A valid driver’s license and access to auto transportation is required
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills across business groups internally and outside the organization
  • Bi-lingual Spanish (preferred)
