Head Teacher

Description:

La Peninsula Community Organization, is looking for energetic, highly motivated NYS CERTIFIED Early Childhood Teachers for our Head Start program.  Applicants must possess a positive attitude and be enthusiastic about the challenge of working with our three and four year old children. Our teachers are responsible for the safety of the children and have direct supervision of the Assistant Teacher assigned to the classroom.  It is expected that our teachers meets the certification requirements by the funding agency and the Department of Health.  A certified teacher may be asked to step up in the absence of the Ed/Site Director on site when the need arises.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Implementing the agency approved curriculum that is consistent with Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework
2. Maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe learning environment
3. Providing children with guidance and supervision
4. Working in partnership with other service areas to ensure comprehensive services
5. Maintaining accurate and updated recordkeeping systems
6. Maintaining and securing all materials and equipment in assigned classrooms
7. Developing and conducting workshops for parents under the guidance of the Ed/Site Director and in collaboration with the Family Service Coordinator
8. Participating in agency activities to promote professional growth
9. Responsible for completing incident/accident reports and following procedures in handling cases of suspected child abuse/neglect
10. Working in collaboration with the BOE/private schools for transition of children going to kindergarten
