Job Description

The Preschool Director will be responsible for the start-up and running of a new preschool that is dedicated to preparing children to thrive by nurturing them in such a way that they become curious, excited and competent students of the world.  This school will offer high quality education that will prepare its children to go on to the most competitive public and private schools in New York City.  The Director will recruit families and staff and enroll up to 75 children through marketing, community connections and family engagement. In addition to managing the program on a day-to-day basis, the Director will be responsible for shaping, articulating and implementing the educational vision of the school and is the primary contact for parents, community leaders, and funders. Responsibilities:

  • Oversee early childhood program;
  • Help create policies and procedures
  • Make recommendations to executive director regarding the hiring, termination, and job; performance for related services, instructional, behavioral and facilities staff;
  • Maintain and advance high-quality early childhood programs and high performing classrooms for young children;
  • Collaborate with key organizations to ensure the highest quality of service and administration;
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders – coalitions, community groups, government, and families.
  • Continue to define and refine programmatic outcomes;
  • Oversee fiscal planning and management;
  • Develop a highly competent early childhood workforce in line with federal, state and city standards and establish core competencies and standards of excellence;
  • Serve as a mentor/coach to early childhood staff.
  • Recruit staff through community outreach and overseeing the interview, hiring, and orientation process.
  • Create positive partnerships with families by serving as a resource and responding to questions and concerns.
  • Maintain active waiting lists, enrollment, payroll, and center/school expenses systems.
  • Lead the center/school to achieve and maintain NAEYC Accreditation.
  • Ensure that all licenses and permits are current.

Qualifications:

  • Fully NYS Certified in Early Childhood Education 
  • Bachelors accepted or Masters degree in Early Childhood Education preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years administrative and supervisory experience required;
  • Trained in Child Abuse and Infectious Disease Control requirel;
  • Excellent written, verbal and computer skills required;
  • First Aid and CPR preferred but not required.
