Description:

The Early Childhood Coordinator will function in an ACS borough office as the lead clinical consultant on early childhood development issues impacting families known to child welfare.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

•Provide case-specific consultations to ACS, Preventive Services and Foster care staff regarding early childhood issues.
•Provide training to ACS staff in early childhood development assessment, diagnosis and service planning.
•Complete required documentation of clinical consults, using ACS templates, within the requisite time frames.
•Maintain JB tracking log for requested and completed referrals.
•Follow up and/or check in with staff on consults as appropriate.
•Complete ACS statistical reports.
•Meet weekly productivity requirement.
•Outreach to CPS to generate referrals as needed.
•Work with Team Coordinator to conduct ongoing needs assessment in field office.
•Review and identify external resources for families in child welfare.
•Visit external resource linkages to ensure they are child welfare friendly and appropriate for families.
•Participate in ERC, FTM, or other conferences as assigned in the borough offices, CBO, or home as needed.
•Where indicated and assessed, may have some level of direct family involvement with home / community visiting in conjunction with ACS / Child protective staff to model effective strategies for engagement, assessment and problem solving.
•In conjunction with the Team Coordinator and other consultant staff help develop a clinical team that provides coordinated consultation in cases where there is co-morbidity.
•Conduct focus groups and other linkages for assessment with ACS / Child protective staff regarding early childhood mental health issues / information to assess training needs.
•In conjunction with the Team Coordinator create linkages with early childhood providers for resource / information dissemination.
•Providing case-specific consultations may involve direct contact with clients, providing for a more informed consultation service.

Responsibilities:

REQUIREMENTS:

•Knowledge of the child welfare system preferred.
•Strong knowledge of early childhood mental health or infant and early childhood development, including expertise in the impact of trauma on young children.
•Willingness to work the New York City Holiday schedule.
•3-5 years in early childhood development field.
•Domestic violence and / or substance knowledge helpful.
 

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

•MA/MS in Social Work, LMSW / LCSW or Licensed Psychologist, or Masters in Early Childhood Development
