Assistant Teachers

Description:

Manhattan Schoolhouse, a Reggio Emilia inspired daycare and preschool on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is searching for warm natured, creative and hardworking full-time assistant teachers for its infant and toddler programs.  Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in early childhood, possess an associate's degree in early childhood education or be currently enrolled in a study program.  

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Support the classroom’s overall organization, which includes but is not limited to teachers’ roles/responsibilities, schedules, lesson plans, classroom events and transitions.
• Conduct project work sessions with classroom children.
• Design, write, collaborate upon and deliver observational notes (anecdotal, photography, videography, etc.).
• Carry out the daily care of the child: greeting children and families during drop-off and pick-up, participating in and supporting circle time, setting up provocations, implementing projects, changing diapers, body care and cleaning.
• Step in and act as a head teacher when the head teacher may be absent.
• Be present for and participate in Parent Teacher Conferences throughout the school year.
• Provide parents continuous and specific information about their children's educational, social and emotional processes in person during drop-off and pick-up.
• Ensure safety and accountability of children during their walks and/or activities outside the center.
• Participate in research projects.
• Attend professional development.
• Meet regularly with the head teacher to collaborate upon all aspects of one’s responsibilities and overall care of the children and families of the class.
• Collaborate with all staff members to ensure the best care for all children is met each and every day.
