The Group Teacher reports directly to the Education Director; and is responsible for the implementation of the program curricula and overall classroom management.
Group Teacher responsibilities include planning and executing curriculum based on Common Core Learning Standards, Creative Curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards; Promoting the professional growth of the classroom team; conducting regular Parent-Teacher Conferences, and establishing a positive relationship with the parents; creating and fostering a developmentally appropriate learning environment; implementing classroom curriculum and educational programs based on the individual child’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development; managing the classroom to create a safe physical and emotional environment as well as motivate learning; coordinating and conducting home visits, parent meetings and ensuring that developmental screening standards are met; maintaining classroom records; participating in all staff development programs and activities. The teacher will be working under the supervision of the Education Director and within the framework of the sponsoring agency.
BA, MA or MS degree in Early Childhood; NYS Certification in N-6; All employees must have NYC Department of Investigation fingerprint clearance, be cleared through the Statewide Central Registry of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, and comply with all the ACS, Head Start requirements as a condition of hiring and continued employment. Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with 2.9-5 year old children in a center-based preschool or Head Start program; Must be knowledgeable of UPK learning standards and the Head Start Performance Standards; Must have the ability to utilize/implement Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies Gold Online, STEM, Common Core Framework and NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment; Must be creative and motivated; Must have CPR and First Aid certification; Must be able to meet the physical requirements of working with young children, including walking up and down stairs, sitting on the floor, and lifting a child.
