Purple Crayon is located in Bath Beach/Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, NY.  We are seeking an Early Childhood CERTIFIED full time lead teacher/education director in our UPK classroom to join our team for the 2017-2018 school year. We are a small, close-knit preschool and have formed strong relationships with all of our students and families. It is very important that we create a nurturing, caring, and supportive environment to the families we serve and also to each other on the team.

We are interested in meeting experienced and passionate early childhood educators who truly believe in the importance of providing meaningful experiences to young children and can describe their ideas/experiences that will inspire young children to become lifelong learners. We expect teachers to be not only a role model to their students, but also as a secondary caregiver and playmate (we love it when teachers get down and join children in their play). Lead teachers must be familiar with Early Childhood Education Rating Scale (ECER-S) and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).

Responsibilities:

  • Implementing effective program curriculum
  • Conducting authentic assessments using Teaching Strategies Gold
  • Plan and implement monthly and yearly curriculum and activities for students
  • Prepare materials necessary for planned activities
  • Conduct small and large group activities and implement routines in the classroom
  • Create detailed lesson plans according to PKA Interdisciplinary Units
  • Track student attendance
  • Maintain portfolio for each student
  • Conduct authentic assessments and record into Teaching Strategies Gold; adjust lessons according to assessment results
  • Communicate with families regarding their child’s progress
  • Work with representatives from NYC Department of Education during their visits
  • Maintain general class cleanliness
  • Update display of children’s work
  • Lead and supervise assistant teacher
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and staff developments
  • Ensure site meets Department of Health regulations according to Article 47

Qualifications:

  • NYS Early Childhood Education teaching certification and at least a Bachelor's degree (a MUST)
  • 2+ years of experience working as the lead teacher in a UPK classroom
  • Familiar with the Building Blocks Math Curriculum
  • Friendly, energetic, approachable individual who enjoys working with children and families
  • Responsible, self-starter, team-player
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Familiar with the Building Blocks Curriculum
  • Ability to create a developmentally appropriate lessons
  • Strong technology skills
  • Recent Medical (completed within a year)
  • Fingerprinting through Department of Investigation
  • Clearance of Statewide Central Registry
  • Child Abuse and Violence Prevention Certification
  • Infectious Disease Certificate
  • CPR/First Aid Training
  • Speaks Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) (a plus)
