If this describes you...Bitty City Players is looking for you! Come join us! This is a part-time position (see below) with competitive pay and flexible scheduling, located in the Vinegar Hill/Dumbo area of Brooklyn, NY.

 

You will be working in a supportive environment with a diverse group of children. This is a pilot program and we value your input. Bitty City Players cultivates young minds through fun, innovative, and active learning. From theater games to scientific exploration to sensory play, our dynamic classes stimulate the imagination, promote teamwork, and develop problem-solving skills.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, organized and age-appropriate learning environment.

  • Ensure safety and well-being of students and encourage active participation during outdoor and indoor play, meals, and enrichment class time.

  • Plan/contribute to the design and implementation of lessons and activities.

  • Teach enrichment lessons 1-5 days/week with support of Assistant Teachers. Frequency and content of lessons are subject to your schedule and areas of expertise.

  • Problem-solve with young children and manage behavior of groups and individual children, using language focused on “choice” and a growth mindset.

  • Collaborate with other afterschool team members, including Executive Director/Program Director, Site Director, fellow Lead Teachers, and Assistant Teachers.

  • Communicate as appropriate with school faculty, families and caregivers.

  • Follow regulations and procedures outlined in Bitty City Players Handbook and during training and orientation.

  • Attend and actively participate in all training sessions and scheduled meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Director.

Qualifications:

  • See Criteria outlined at top of post
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Arts Education, or related field

  • Strong experience teaching pre-k and early childhood. Prior work experience in urban education and/or afterschool education preferred.

  • Proficiency teaching one or more of the following subjects to young children: music, theater, visual art, yoga, dance, natural science, basic engineering principles, literacy or math readiness, mindfulness, SEL.

  • Training and experience involving children with special needs is a plus

Additional Information:

The program runs 9/12/2018 thru 6/21/2019, Monday thru Friday, 2pm-6pm. Schedule is flexible; availability 5 afternoons a week is preferred but not required. We follow the NYC DOE calendar but will also provide programming during some school closures such as clerical days and certain religious holidays.

We are seeking candidates available for the full school year, but are willing to consider candidates with single-semester availability.

All staff, regardless of frequency of teaching, must be available for orientation and training on select dates in late August and early September, and for regular staff meetings throughout the school year.

Our pay rate is competitive, commensurate with experience and skills, and with the number/frequency of formal enrichment lessons you prepare and lead.

Due to licensing requirements, if you have not already completed fingerprinting, background check, and health and safety training with the NYC DOE or DOH, you will need to do so upon accepting this position. We can provide guidance on this.
