The Recruitment/Outreach Specialist/Advisory Coordinator will work closely with the Director and the Family Services Coordinator in maintaining full enrollment at all GSS Early Learn sites, creating and monitoring viable waitlist of each center. The position will involve frequent travel throughout the LES of Manhattan & Brooklyn, participation in outreach events and will require evening and weekend hours as necessary (80% field work, 20% planning/record keeping/training).

Responsibilities:

  1. Community Outreach and Recruitment
  • Utilize program data sources (i.e., Community Assessment, Community data and events, social services agencies) to develop and implement annual outreach plan and ensure funded enrollment at all sites
  • Coordinate recruitment activities including posting materials, attending events, community canvassing, open houses and other related community functions
  • Monitor waitlist of Early Learn and EHS slots
  • Explore ways to utilize social media to increase Head Start/ Early Learn visibility and enrollment
  1. Advisory Council Coordinator
  • Attend and represent GSS Early Learn ,at community events and other functions to promote services
  • Ensure Sites maintain funded enrollment level and waiting list, assisting to fill vacancies as needed at the individual sites and analyze enrollment data to inform the planning process
  • Coordinate year-round recruitment activities to recruit families with children of 3 & 4 years old, with the greatest need, based on community assessment findings. Activities will include: door-to-door, agency and community outreach, and distribution of materials as assigned
  • Develop partnerships in both LES and Brooklyn
  • Assist families in completing application and other enrollment documents
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services preferred
  • Ability to know and implement the Head Start Performance Standards, and policies of Grand St. Settlement regarding the Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection & Attendance of families
  • Ability to communicate and provide presentations to large and small groups
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, children, parents, outside agencies and the public
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local community agencies to produce formal linkage agreements & community partnerships
  • Knowledge of the social services and health services available in the area
  • Ability to project professionalism in conducting daily activities
  • Excellent oral and written and computer communications skills 
  • Working knowledge of local community and agency resources  
  • Knowledge of local resources, customs and language
  • Ability to work well with an ethnically and linguistically diverse population   
  • Flexibility in travelling throughout the LES & Brooklyn
