La Escuelita, one of the first dual language preschools in Manhattan, is seeking an experienced bilingual Educational Director. La Escuelita is NAEYC accredited and was founded on three core values 1) The importance of early-acquired bilingualism 2) The importance of a curriculum that includes both play-based and teacher directed activity 3) Respectful and direct communication within a diverse community. 20% of La Escuelita's operating budget is set aside for tuition reduction each year to help maintain socio-economic diversity in our student population.

Preschool classrooms at La Escuelita are conducted primarily in Spanish.

The Educational Director must possess NYS teaching certification in Birth-Grade 2, speak and write both Spanish and English fluently and have experience supervising teachers and teaching in a preschool classroom.

Responsibilities:

Leading the teaching staff.

·  Helping the teachers to create developmentally appropriate curriculum that addresses each child’s individual progress.

·  Helping teachers to apply their individual skills and strengths to the curriculum and their interactions with children.

·  Guiding teachers to identify and improve their weaknesses.

·  Providing opportunities for professional development for teachers including but not limited to staff development days in August, scheduled days throughout the year and during weekly faculty meetings.

·  Keeping track of staff development hours for each staff member.

·  Evaluating the staff formally twice per year.

·  Running weekly faculty meetings to discuss school-wide issues and other administrative matters.

·  Creating an enjoyable, respectful and professional work environment.

·  Ensuring open lines of communication between teachers and families.

·  Planning and organizing travel plans and registration for annual NAEYC conference.

Leading the Admissions Process.

·  Organizing and leading information sessions.

·  Scheduling and holding family admissions meetings as applications are received.

·  Returning phone calls from prospective families.

·  Conducting family interviews/tours throughout year.

·  Meeting with Executive Director and Board Members to determine placement and financial aid.

Including families in the school community.

·  Representing and communicating the school’s mission, values, programs and curriculum to current and prospective families.

·  Ensuring teachers send high quality weekly updates to parents on curriculum and school community.

·  Sending supplemental school-wide updates to all families.

·  Planning and implementing school-wide events.

·  Providing opportunities for individuals to participate in and out of the classroom.

·  Scheduling and attending PLT (Parent Leadership Team) meetings.

Ensuring a safe and optimally functioning classroom environment.

·  Reading all school documentation and communication to ensure quality and compliance with the school mission.

·  Keeping track of materials and order new materials when necessary.

·  Insuring all school and student paperwork are up to date, including and especially Department of Health documents.

·  Ensuring compliance of all regulations for the Department of Health, NAEYC and other licensing agencies.

·  Completing all necessary paperwork to maintain and renew license for DOH, NAEYC and other licensing agencies.
