Hostos Community College Children’s Center, Inc. (HCCCC) is a privately incorporated campus-based childcare center licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). HCCCC is committed to addressing the varied needs of children ages 2 to 5 in two structured programs: Preschool Program (ages 2 and 3) and the Pre-Kindergarten for All program (PKA) (ages 4 – 5) via contract with New York City Department of Education. HCCCC has a total of seven (7) classrooms and one (1) library. Our license permits us to serve up to one hundred-twenty (120) children. The mission of Hostos Community College Children’s Center, Inc. is to offer Hostos Community College students (student-parents) with access to a safe, nurturing, affordable, high quality, educational learning environment for their children.

The Educational Director position at HCCCC is chiefly responsible for the educational program. The Educational Director supervises the instructional staff, designs the learning environment and ensures the educational program is in compliance with DOHMH and DOE guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborates primarily with the executive director to create the strategic plan for the organization
• Supervises and coaches the instructional staff
• Ensures each classroom is in compliance with ECERS & CLASS standards
• Identifies best practices to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum
• Creates policies/rules for instructional staff to reinforce professionalism and a developmentally appropriate learning environment
• Creates an event calendar to showcase children’s work and engage parents
• Collaborates with and supports therapists in meeting Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals where appropriate (If Applicable)
• Regularly communicates with parents/guardians
• Develops para-professionals by allowing them to shadow and assist with completing appropriate tasks
• Evaluates and strengthens policies and protocols to report any signs or symptoms of suspected child abuse and neglect, abnormal behaviors, injuries or child illness
• Knowledgeable of NYC DOHMH, NYC DOE and NYS OCFS child care and early learning guidelines/regulations
• Experience in implementing ECE curriculums and developing lesson plans
• Recruits instructional staff
• Attends and presents at meetings with various stakeholders (dignitaries, administrators, teachers, parents, board of directors, funders, etc.)
• Presents at workshops and trainings, lead staff meetings and model effective teaching strategies
• Works with multiple stakeholders (administrators, teachers, parents, board of directors, funders, etc.)
• Collects and analyze data to make decisions
• Performs clerical duties, inputs data into software systems, conducts research
• Assists in fundraising, marketing and recruitment
• Manages budget for the educational program
 

Qualifications:

• Must be able to pass an extensive background check (DOE & DOI fingerprints, and SCR)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; Master’s Degree Preferred
• Valid NYS Certification in ECE (Birth – 2)
• Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in ECE (Birth – 2)
• Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience or at least 4 years teaching experience
• Compiles with all DOHMH requirements and other agency requirements for the operation of the organization

Additional Information:

This is a 12-month position; 35 hours per week. Please note, the work week from late June - early August will be four days a week for 35 hours per week.
